Jordan statement on Justice Department decision to not bring charges against Lois Lerner

Statement

Date: Oct. 23, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) made the following comments regarding the Department of Justice's announcement that it would close its investigation into the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS and that it would not bring charges against Lois Lerner or anyone else at the agency:

"In yet another political abuse of power, the Obama Justice Department has decided it will not charge Lois Lerner for her actions at the IRS. This isn't surprising, given that President Obama prejudged the Justice Department's investigation when he said in early 2014 that there was "not even a smidgen' of corruption at the IRS. No wonder so many Americans distrust their government.

"The American people deserve justice from their Justice Department. They deserve to know the truth about how the IRS systematically targeted their First Amendment rights. Sadly this administration has given them none."
