Pompeo on National Defense Authorization Act

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) released the following statement on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 270-156.

"Today's passage of the defense authorization bill is a huge double win for Kansans. This legislation includes essential restrictions that will prevent President Obama from transferring Guantanamo Bay (GITMO) detainees to Fort Leavenworth or anywhere else in America. Keeping these terrorists at GITMO is crucial to the safety and security of all Americans.

"Additionally, this bill authorizes continued funding for the KC-46 tanker. Following the aircraft's successful first flight last week, this funding marks an important step forward in bringing these amazing new planes to McConnell Air Force Base.

"At a time when our nation is faced with unprecedented threats and global challenges, this bill ensures that our nation's defense forces are strong, resilient, and prepared to keep Americans safe and defend our interests abroad."
