U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill toured the Edgewood Creamery on Thursday. The family-owned dairy aims to produce natural, high-quality dairy products from grass-fed cows.

"This is as good as it gets in Missouri agriculture. This is a family operation. They are doing added value by taking their great milk, it comes out of their herd, and converting it into milk you can buy here in the store and cheese, and it's all the family," said U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, Missouri.

McCaskill says that it is important for her to tour Missouri farms and learn how she can help them.

"I wanted to come and see this modern, you know, food processing plant. While small, but I think it is definitely handcrafted and the kind of thing I think consumers want right now," said Senator McCaskill.

The owner of Edgwood Creamery, Charles Fletcher, says that he hopes to one day expand his company and fears the international free trade deals currently being negotiated will have a big impact on food and farm systems in America.

"They could negatively impact dairy farmers across this nation if we don't have free access or equal access to trade. Not only in this country, but in other countries," said Charles Fletcher, owner of Edgewood Creamery.

"The list they've given me is reasonable, looking at the trade agreements, making sure the regulations aren't going to far. And I'm anxious to get back and go to work for this great Fletcher family," said Senator McCaskill.
