Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today met with soldiers from Fort Leonard Wood's 14th Military Police Brigade to discuss the base's critical role in the nation's defense, and to wish them luck as they prepare to run in DC's annual Army 10-Miler on Sunday.

"These Soldiers represent some of the best of our armed forces, and I was glad for the opportunity to talk with them today," said McCaskill, a senior member of the Armed Services Committee. "Fort Leonard Wood plays a critical role in our nation's defense--and I was eager to hear directly from the folks on the ground about the challenges they face and the opportunities they're taking advantage of, including this visit to DC to learn more about Congress and how we can better advocate for them."

McCaskill is a longtime advocate for Ft. Leonard Wood. This summer Army Chief of Staff Mark Milley visited Ft. Leonard Wood at McCaskill's request. Earlier this year, McCaskill met with Russell Strand, Chief of the Behavioral Sciences Education and Training Division of the Military Police School at Fort Leonard Wood, to discuss his and the Fort's contributions to developing and disseminating the Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview technique. McCaskill previously met with base and community representatives, and sent a letter to Army Secretary John McHugh to express concerns surrounding potential plans to reconfigure the Army's Brigade Combat Teams.
