Reducing Lawsuit Abuse: Good For Our Economy & The Public Good

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement applauding House passage of H.R. 758, the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act:

"In a way, every American is a victim of lawsuit abuse. Because of excessive litigation, we all have to pay more for everything from health care to everyday goods and services. And, of course, there's the constant fear of being sued on any given day for any reason, which is especially crippling for start-ups and small businesses. Meanwhile, the lawyers who file these excessive suits get off scot-free. There has to be a better way, and the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act is one such answer. It will restore mandatory sanctions to hold attorneys accountable, provide a path for their victims to get full compensation, and make them think twice before going after innocent people and businesses. This is good for our economy, and it serves the public good, so I hope the Senate will take up Lamar Smith's bill in short order."
