Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 427, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act on a bipartisan vote. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding its passage:

"The cost of complying with Washington's complicated regulations is one of the biggest burdens on American small businesses and manufacturers. Under President Obama, government regulations have grown virtually unchecked, adversely affecting the economy by trillions of dollars and crushing hardworking American workers and their employers. The REINS Act will provide a check on "major rules' that would have a significant impact on the way Americans live and do business every day. I applaud my Republican Study Committee colleague, Rep. Todd Young, for his leadership on this important effort."

Introduced by Rep. Young (R-IN), the REINS Act would require a congressional vote before any regulatory rule with more than $100 million economic impact goes into effect. The Wall Street Journal said the REINS Act "would revolutionize government in practice and help restore the representative democracy the founders envisioned."
