ME/NH DELEGATION MEMBERS CONGRATULATE PNS ON RECEIPT OF CNO ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

Tuesday, February 8, 2005

(Washington, D.C.)---Members of the Maine and New Hampshire Congressional Delegations today congratulated the employees and management of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS) on the receipt of a 2004 Chief of Naval Operations Environmental Award for the shipyard's efforts to protect and manage cultural resources.

"This Chief of Naval Operations award is well-deserved acknowledgment of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard's outstanding environmental record," Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, New Hampshire Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu, Maine Representative Tom Allen and New Hampshire Representative Jeb Bradley said in a joint statement. "We are very proud of the commitment and effort that the workers and managers at PNS devote to a clean environment and to the conservation of natural and cultural resources. We must also call attention to the fact that PNS has achieved this distinction while also maintaining a record for overhauling submarines under budget and ahead of schedule that is unmatched by any competing shipyard in either the public or the private sector. We extend our hearty congratulations to everyone at PNS who helped to make this award possible."
