Issue Position

National Security

Throughout the history of the United States, a strong national defense has been critical to the preservation of liberty at home. This chapter of our history should be no different, which is why I will work to ensure that all the branches of our military are provided with the tools they need to protect our freedom. Our nation owes an enormous debt of gratitude to those who make it their life's work to serve in the military, and we need to make sure that they are well-equipped when they are deployed in defense of our freedoms.

Veterans

The state of Tennessee has a proud military heritage, and we must keep our promises to the brave men and women who have defended our freedom through their service in the Armed Forces. I will work hard to see that veterans receive the full support of the federal government for their much-appreciated service. Our veterans have given so much, and we need to show our gratitude and support for what they have done. We must protect money spent on our veterans from being cut by the federal government. We must be there for our wounded veterans, who will need continuing medical care and support for the sacrifices they made for our country. We need to pursue new and better ways to educate veterans when their military duty ends, and we need to work hard to keep track of all American military personnel as they return home from duty. I will work hard to protect the benefits and assistance given to the heroes who selflessly fought to protect the freedom we all enjoy.

Nuclear Iran

Preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear capabilities is a top foreign policy priority. Any agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran must ensure the complete dismantling of Iran's nuclear programs and prevention of future capabilities. Iran is the world's largest state sponsor of terror and simply delaying Iran's possession of these weapons is not an option for the security of America and our allies. The nation of Israel, a friend and ally of the United States since its foundation, and the only remaining democracy in the Middle East, is particularly vulnerable to Iran's nuclear threat. It is vital to U.S. foreign policy in the region that the U.S. remains Israel's most staunch ally and supporter.

ISIS

We have seen the recent result of President Obama's decision to withdraw troops from Iraq, which is the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), whose primary goal is to create an Islamic fundamentalist state that will kill anyone that does not convert to Islam. It is very clear that ISIS is more than a typical terrorist organization, ISIS is well-funded, and now controls thousands of miles of Iraqi territory with the hopes of creating a new Islamic State.
