Congressman Fattah Statement on July Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Aug. 7, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee issued the following statement on the July 2015 jobs numbers released today. Fattah has been recognized as a leader in advocating for small and minority businesses, and was honored last week with the 2015 Advocate of the Year Award from the United States Black Chambers, Inc:

"This is a strong jobs report coming on top of an already strong year of job growth. The July jobs numbers released today showed that the unemployment rate held steady at 5.3 percent, while the economy added 210,000 private sector jobs last month. These job gains continue the longest streak on record of private sector job growth--now at 65 months.

"Our economy continues to move in the right direction and we can point specifically to policies and initiatives put in place over the last several years that have accelerated this recovery. These include the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the instrumental passage of the Urban Jobs Act--which I sponsored in the House--and my continued advocacy on behalf of small and minority businesses and support of the Department of Commerce.

"I look forward to returning from the August recess and working together with my Congressional colleagues to push for more initiatives like these job creating policies, that can boost the United State's economic recovery and build a brighter future for America's hard-working families."
