Hoeven: DOJ Awards $400,000 to Bismarck's Abused Adult Resource Center

Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women has awarded $400,000 to the Abused Adult Resource Center (AARC) in Bismarck. The funds are made available through the DOJ's Enhanced Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life Program, which addresses elder abuse, neglect and exploitation through training and programs.

The AARC will collaborate with the Burleigh County Sherriff's Office, Burleigh County's State's Attorney's Office, Bismarck Police Department, North Dakota Attorney General's Office, North Dakota Bureua of Criminal Investigation and North Dakota Department of Human Services -- Aging Services Division to develop a multidisciplinary approach to addressing elder abuse in the community. The funds will be used to provide project partners with training opportunities to assist law enforcement, government agencies, prosecutors, victim assistants and local courts in recognizing, investigating and prosecuting cases of elder abuse.

"Victims of violent crime and their families can face many hardships, economic, physical and emotional," Hoeven said. "We continue our work in Washington to not only provide much-needed support services to these victims, but also to provide state and local governments with the training and tools they need to keep our communities safe."
