Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) announced a new Project HERO (Healing Exercise Rehabilitation Opportunity) initiative between Ride 2 Recovery (R2R) and General Electric (GE) to provide veterans an outlet through cycling and other activities.

R2R is a nonprofit veteran's organization created to saves lives by restoring hope and purpose to veterans returning from battle. GE established its Veterans Network in 2009 to create a community of veterans and supporters to support, hire and grow military veterans throughout GE's businesses and local communities. Today, the Veterans Network has more than 10,000 veteran members in 71 units across the U.S.

"Today's announcement of the Project HERO initiative in Ohio is exciting because it will enable veterans from all over our state to connect with each other through cycling," said Portman. "I look forward to continuing to work with Ride 2 Recovery, GE, and others to ensure our veterans get the community support they have earned and deserve."
