Hoeven: HHS Awards More than $280,000 to University of North Dakota to Support Alzheimer's Research

Senator John Hoeven announced today that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $283,925 to the University of North Dakota (UND) to support aging research. Hoeven announced similar funding for UND in April. Specifically, the funds will be used to test how diets high in palmitate, a chemical common in palm oil and other foods, increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

"People North Dakota, millions of people are affected by Alzheimer's disease," Hoeven said. "Today's grant will fund research that will help us better understand how individuals can prevent this disease. UND researchers have been working to learn more about Alzheimer's disease. Through their work we can hopefully treat this devastating disease and help millions of people live longer and better lives."

The funds are made available through the National Institute on Aging.
