Vitter Announces Passage of Bipartisan DRIVE Act, the First Long-Term Highway Bill in a Decade

Press Release

Date: July 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) today made the following statement following the Senate's passage of the bipartisan six-year highway reauthorization bill, entitled the Developing a Reliable and Innovative Vision for the Economy Act (DRIVE Act).

"Louisianians certainly recognize the importance of updating and maintaining our roads, highways, and bridges. Passing the DRIVE Act out of the Senate takes an important step in the right direction, but that doesn't mean our work is done," said Vitter. "In the coming months, I will continue to work with my colleagues to get this substantive, long-term highway bill to the President's desk so we can improve the flow of commerce, provide traffic relief, and allow folks to spend less time sitting in traffic and more time with their families."

As the Chairman of the Environment and Public Works' (EPW) Subcommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Vitter has been developing bipartisan-supported legislation to increase infrastructure project certainty, reduce economic waste, and provide traffic relief.
