Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) released the following statement on the announcement of the initial operational readiness of the Marine Corps' F-35B Joint Strike Fighter:

"Officially declaring the Marine Corps' F-35B Joint Strike Fighter combat ready is a powerful and profoundly significant milestone for our national security and all the skilled, dedicated workers who contributed tirelessly at Pratt & Whitney and elsewhere to this critical program. The first operational fleet of F-35s is in the hands of our warfighters and prepared for their first mission. The air superiority and stealth of this next generation fighter is key to protecting and safeguarding our nation and allies. It will help maintain dominance and defense against rapidly-advancing threats around the globe."
