Press Release

Date: July 22, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) this week joined 126 of his colleagues in sending a letter to express support for the efforts of two House committees that have launched investigations into the allegations surrounding Planned Parenthood possibly selling the body parts of unborn children.

The letter, written to Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Fred Upton, and Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Bob Goodlatte, points to the recent videos that surfaced featuring top Planned Parenthood officials, condemns the alleged practices and urges swift action to look into the activities of all parties involved.

"[We] are deeply disturbed by new allegations that Planned Parenthood abortion clinics not only profit from the intentional destruction of unborn children, but also sell children's organs piece by piece to fetal tissue brokers. These actions are unconscionable and these horrific abuses must be stopped."

The letter continues, "These revelations give good reason for Congress to take a serious look at the practices of Planned Parenthood and the companies that buy and sell the body parts and organs of unborn children who are dismembered in Planned Parenthood clinics."

Congressman Allen also spoke on the House floor yesterday evening, saying he would work with his colleagues to get to the bottom of these allegations and hold those responsible accountable. Click here to view his remarks. Excerpts can also be found below.

"The practices brought to light in these videos and reports are shocking and sickening.

"When such reports come forward, it is our moral responsibility to act. We must take action on behalf of the most vulnerable and precious lives among us.

"I commend the House Energy and Commerce and House Judiciary committees who have begun efforts to investigate these heinous practices, and I am committed to working with my colleagues to ensure we get to the bottom of these allegations.

"Planned Parenthood -- and all those involved -- must be held accountable."
