Gov. Scott: Jacksonville Added More Than 15,000 Jobs Over the Year in June 2015

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Jacksonville area gained 15,100 new jobs over the year in June 2015. Jacksonville's unemployment rate declined by 1.0 percentage point over the year, from 6.4 percent in June 2014 to 5.4 percent in June 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 896,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "Our hard work to cut taxes and grow the economy is making a difference for families across our state. More than 15,000 jobs were added for Jacksonville families over the year in June, and we look forward to seeing continued job growth in Northeast Florida so more Floridians can achieve their dreams."

The industries with the largest job gains over the year were leisure and hospitality with 5,800 new jobs, and trade, transportation, and utilities and education and health services each with 5,000 new jobs. In June 2015, the Jacksonville MSA had 21,385 online job openings and had 4,986 online openings for high wage, high skill science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) jobs.

Florida created 12,200 private-sector jobs in June 2015, and a total of 896,900 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for June 2015 was 5.5 percent. In June, more than 33,200 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Northeast Florida and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
