Donnelly Calls for Roundtable on Future of River Ridge Commerce Center

Press Release

Date: March 12, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly today called for federal officials to meet with state and local stakeholders to discuss the status and future of the River Ridge Commerce Center--the site of the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant--in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the status of land transfers from the Army to the local River Ridge Development Authority for economic development.

"Clark County has worked tirelessly for the responsible closure of the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant for more than two decades with the intention of restoring the property to productive use after years of environmentally damaging operations," Donnelly said. "The River Ridge Development Association's redevelopment efforts have been dangerously stalled in recent months due to the risks posed by the solid and hazardous waste landfill, and these concerns must be addressed. By getting all stakeholders in one room, I am hopeful we can make needed progress on the effort to make River Ridge a safe, attractive area for additional economic development."

Donnelly has invited Army Headquarters (HQDA), the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), U.S. Senator Dan Coats, U.S Representative Todd Young (IN-09), and community leaders to attend the meeting.
