Registration Deadline: You may register at the polling place on Election Day as long as the polls are open. If you would like to be listed in the registration database before Election Day, your registration form must be received by your local Board of Elections 10 days before Election Day. Your registration will be valid either way.


Party Affiliation: Undeclared voters may choose either party's ballot in the primary election. If you are registered with a party you must vote that party's ballot in the primary election. If you voted on a party ballot in the last primary or presidential election, you are now a registered member of that party unless you filled out a card to return to undeclared status with the supervisors of the checklist.



Age: Must be 18 years or older on Election Day

Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen

Residency: There is no minimum period of time you are required to have lived in the state before being allowed to register. You can only register in the town or ward in which you are domiciled.

Mental Competency: New Hampshire places no restrictions on voting from the stance of mental competence.

Online: New Hampshire does not provide voter registration forms online.

In person: You may register to vote in the town or city clerk's office in the town or city where you are domiciled up to 10 days before any election or scheduled meeting. Qualified individuals may also register to vote at the polling place on election day at all elections.

By mail/ in writing: Please contact your local election office to find out about submitting an application by mail.

Other Voter Registration Application Information: It may be easier for you to register with your community's Supervisors of the Checklist. By law they are required to meet on the Saturday 10 days prior to each election. Check the local newspaper(s) or call your clerk's office for the date and time of such meeting.

Who can vote absentee:

-Anyone absent on the day of the election

-You cannot appear in public on election day because of observance of religious beliefs

-You are unable to vote in person due to a disability.

-You are an absent uniformed service member

By mail: Send a request to your County Clerk.

Military and overseas voting: Read New Hampshire's Uniformed and Overseas Voters FAQ and apply for a Federal Post Card Application(FPCA).

Emergency Voting: You may register to vote at the polls on Election Day.


Other absentee ballot information: Absentee ballots are available from your town or city clerk approximately 30 days prior to an election. An application for an absentee ballot may be transmitted by facsimile to a town or city clerk.



Location and time: Clerks may accept completed absentee ballots submitted in person by the voter until 5:00 p.m. the day before an election or until 5:00 p.m.. on election day if received through the mail.



Early voting qualifications: Early voting is unavailable in New Hampshire.
