Expanding the Affordable Care Act is a major step toward bringing health care costs under control.
Georgia would see a net increase in federal spending of $2.85 billion and would see a reduction in uncompensated care of $410 million. In addition, thousands of new jobs could be created with the expansion of Medicaid and have a positive effect on the state?s economy. We have 1.9 million uninsured Georgians in our state?that is 1 in 5, or 20% of our population. It is estimated that 800K Georgians will be eligible for premium subsidies to help make insurance affordable.

Studies have proven raising taxes on tobacco and alcohol is the most effective policy to reduce
tobacco and alcohol usage. Additionally, data suggest that raising taxes on tobacco and alcohol saves lives. The increased revenue generated from raising taxes on tobacco and alcohol will raise billions to fund health care, the creation of a regional high speed rail system and make infrastructural improvements needed.
