Legislation passed by Congress and signed by President Trump is a necessary step towards stabilizing our economy, providing resources for health providers on the front lines, and furthers access to patients who have been stricken by the virus. Since many businesses and individuals have been economically harmed through no fault of their own, we must respond to ensure we have a strong economy when this storm passes. | |||

| As a life-long Idahoan, I am deeply concerned about protecting our environment to ensure we continue to have clean air to breathe and water to drink. This Congress, I was concerned and alarmed about the overreaching Green New Deal. For example, the lead sponsor of the legislation said the plan would transition off nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible. I've said for years I don't believe you can seriously talk about addressing climate change without talking about nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is 100% carbon free and currently supplies more than half of our nation's carbon free energy. | |||

| I believe we need to pass comprehensive immigration reform for both economic and national security reasons. A comprehensive immigration reform package should secure our border and make it much more difficult to enter our country illegally. It should reform and stabilize our legal immigration programs so that farmers, ranchers, the hospitality industry, construction, high-tech, and many other vital sectors of our economy have the workforce they need to grow jobs and create economic opportunity. Finally, it should address the millions of immigrants who are now here illegally in a way that avoids amnesty, but is both compassionate and realistic. | |||

| Due to the complex nature of national security, I will consider the question of the use of military force against any nation seeking weapons of mass destruction on a case by case basis. While we must guard against becoming the world's police force, we must also take seriously all credible threats to our national security. Any decision made regarding the use of military force, whether increasing or decreasing, should be made in consultation with military and national security leaders and should protect American lives at home and abroad, while also maintaining judicious stewardship of taxpayer dollars. | |||

| In Idaho this especially important as our farmers and ranchers make up 20 percent of the economy. On a fair and level playing field they could expand their markets because they are the most efficient and resourceful farmers in the world. Idaho already feeds the world but if you were to eliminate tariffs, they could greatly improve their access to foreign markets and create jobs here at home. | |||

I was a member of the Go Big Coalition, a bipartisan group of lawmakers that advocated for the Simpson-Bowles framework - a balanced approach to addressing the debt and deficit through reforms to mandatory spending and the tax code. 2 -Support President Trump's elimination of burdensome regulations. 3-My work on the House Appropriations Committee which supports important Idaho priorities like Idaho National Lab and rural counties that are impacted by large amounts of federal land. |
