  • "During the worst recession in decades, should we be giving hundreds of billions in borrowed money to the rich? No. Instead, we should reignite the economy and focus on protecting the middle class. • "The White House deal on extending the Bush-era tax cuts is not a compromise; it is a Republican wish list. Extending the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans is fiscally and morally irresponsible. These tax cuts for the wealthy will add $900 billion to the national debt." http://votesmart.org/public-statement/572163/rep-chu-issues-statement-on-white-house-tax-cut-deal#.Va_hcnUVhHw (votesmart.org)

NoInferred Answer Do you generally support requiring states to adopt federal education standards? View Citations
  • "In tough economic times, we need to look at investing in education to keep our country globally competitive. But the No Child Left Behind law left our schools in a poor state, with teachers 'teaching to the test' and leaving subjects like science and history on the chopping block. That is why I am pushing to change our education system. We must ensure equal opportunity for all children. Our students need research-driven innovation in our schools to increase academic achievement and turn our students into critical thinkers, not test-takers." http://votesmart.org/public-statement/1065351/issue-position-education (votesmart.org)
  • "[...] she also realizes that sometimes, bureaucracy gets in the way. That is why she will work to reform No Child Left Behind, a law with the right intentions that has been plagued by inadequate funding promises, inadequate implementation by the Department of Education and other shortcomings." http://votesmart.org/public-statement/689336/issue-position-education/?search=reform#.VcJ2VXUVhHx (votesmart.org)
  • "We need a positive alternative to the current standards offered for education reform. That is why I proposed a plan, Strengthening Our Schools, to give districts an array of tools, not box them into a select few. With this plan, we can come to the rescue of our most challenged schools and give the entire community a voice - and a choice - in how to move forward." http://votesmart.org/public-statement/527027/strengthening-our-nations-schools#.Va_jj3UVhHw (votesmart.org)

  • "In California alone, the implementation of both expanded DACA and DAPA would contribute almost $76 billion to the state economy, increase earnings for all state residents, and create an average of 9,500 jobs each year. The only solution continues to be a legislative solution that creates a path to citizenship and overhauls our broken immigration system." http://votesmart.org/public-statement/983647/rep-chu-statement-on-third-anniversary-of-daca#.VcJ6BHUVhHx (votesmart.org)

  • "Over the past weeks, I have deliberated on how to address ISIL and participated in many informative briefings. What became clear to me is that we cannot ignore this threat. While I am strongly against putting U.S. troops on the ground, I believe that in combination with the engagement of regional partners and targeted air strikes, training the moderate Syrian opposition provides the best on-the-ground opportunity to combat this threat." http://votesmart.org/public-statement/929341/rep-chu-statement-on-isil-vote#.Va_o5XUVhHw (votesmart.org)
