What is the Political Courage Test?

South Dakota Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Unknown Position Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
You own your body and you get to decide what you will do or not do with it. It is not the place of society or government to make these decisions. This is the most basic of rights and freedom.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Unknown Position Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
I need to address the previous question first. I would support ending the income tax all together which is a direct tax and replacing it with the FAIR TAX and indirect tax in keeping with equal treatment under the law. If a changes are made to the current income tax it should be that everyone is taxed the same. Entitlement programs should be reduced across the board and let individuals determine how their money is given to charitable causes within the community. SS and Medicare are forced takings.
Unknown Position Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Money needs to be removed from politics all together, We have the ability today for every individual to have access to the internet and research each candidate via their websites. This is an individual responsibility. This then is equal treatment.
Unknown Position Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
Protection is warranted for public officials including law enforcement when they are performing the lawful duty they are assigned. This ends when they commit actual crimes. Without this protection crucial and sometime split second decisions will not be made for fear of making a mistake.
Unknown Position Do you support increasing defense spending?
I support a strong military for defense of the nation only. Bring our troops home and discontinue financial and physical involvement in foreign nations affairs, except in humanitarian relief.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Unknown Position Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Unknown Position Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
I will address the two question. If you are going to tax it should be equal. I do not support the Supreme Court decision that Corporations are persons! However since that decision has been made they should be taxed the same as a person. The past use of Tax funds to "BAIL OUT" select industry is wrong and in the end hurt the economy in the long term. The free market must be unchained so that competition is garunteed. For a business to fail is part of the equation.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Education is not a duty of the Federal Government as listed in the Constitution. This realm is delegated to States and local Government.
Unknown Position Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Unknown Position Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Once again I will address the two questions The Governement picking winners and losers has to end. If renewable energy is workable it will be adopted and become a part of the package of energy production. Subsidies of all kind need to end including to the petroleum industy. It is a responsibility of the Government to protect the communal property of the people of Land, Water and air. The concept of regulation "Greenhouse gas" ie CO2 is unworkable since every person produces it when they breath.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Only in the case of criminal use of guns has taken place
No Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Unknown Position Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Regarding the Affordable Care Act. There is nothing affordable about it. the use of law to force people to buy from a private industry is illegal in my book. How about we return to a free market regarding health care which would involve de-regulation and narrow definition of Health care by private institutions and government. Allowing people to decide for themselves whom they will seek attention from and including restrictions on who can give medical attention and how they are sanctioned. The use of force across the board is never appropriate since there are so many different employers and situations.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Unknown Position Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
We should work towards open boarders with our neighbors by leveling the playing field. The entire immigration policy needs to be re written such that the avenue to visit, tour, asylum, and work are granted quickly and easily. We have the ability to register and keep track of all the above. The road to citizenship should be a long process except when they have served honorably in the military.
No Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
Absolutely, bring our troops home and end financial support for foreign governments. End the sale of weapons to foreign governments. Defense is the only use of our military and this would include defense against a strike with the use of atomic weapons. We indeed have the ability to do this via space technology and should be investing in it.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
This must be qualified in that the trade must be equal ie tariffs and quota's imposed by trading partners must be reciprocated.
Change the Tort system currently in place. Replace it with one based on self responsibility instead of liability of others for personal choices and actions. Change the immigration policy to allow for a free flow with accountability at our borders. The current system is fraught with inhuman treatment and taking advantage of other human beings. This is not the way of our people. Change Foreign policy: Use of our military for defense only (bring our troops home) end subsidies, sale of weapons and intervention in foreign nations affairs. While your at it create limitations executive orders! Governement by the people
