  • Signed a letter stating: "Many people are fearful about how your presidency will affect women and girls. You have promised to nominate Supreme Court Justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade. You have also nominated officials with unabashedly anti-woman records to serve in cabinet posts with power to affect women's health and day-to-day lives. Because of their fears about what lies ahead, women are already taking action to protect themselves against possible negative outcomes, such as by rushing to their doctors to obtain long-acting birth control before your inauguration." https://votesmart.org/public-statement/1155983/letter-to-hon-donald-trump-president-elect-affordable-care-act-and-planned-parenthood#.W3MtyGdyIfJ (votesmart.org)

  • "An amendment offered by U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright to cut government costs was included in the FY18 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that passed the House today. This amendment would require the Secretary of Defense to brief Congress on compliance of a cost-savings program authorized in the FY17 NDAA. A 2016 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report found that the Department of Defense could save hundreds of thousands of dollars by transferring excess ammunition to other government agencies rather than storing, demilitarizing, or disposing of the ammunition. The GAO report recommended implementing a formal process for the more cost-efficient process." https://votesmart.org/public-statement/1193001/cartwright-amendment-to-curb-government-waste-included-in-defense-spending-bill/?search=defense%20spending#.W3MuEGdyIfI (votesmart.org)

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.

I believe we need to focus on protecting our environment and ensuring no industries play by their own rules and pollute the country endangering our health and the health of our children and generations to come.

I also believe we need to promote economic development and job creation and level the playing field so every American has a chance to succeed and provide for their family.

We finally need to invest in our future. We need to invest in education and scientific research and make sure everyone pays their fair share so we can afford it.
