Yes 3) Do you support the elimination of the federal estate tax?
Yes 4) Do you support requiring the federal budget to be balanced each year?
No 5) Do you support using government funds in an effort to stimulate and improve the economy?
We need to freeze discretionary spending while we resolve our budget crisis. I am in favor of trimming agricultural subsidies. I also believe we should reduce our contribution to the UN proportionally to de-fund those parts of the UN that are used to undermine the US and our allies.
I believe that we must reduce our taxes on business and investment, so that we can create jobs and become more competitive in the global economy.
I believe that the budget should be balanced within a narrow band. I believe that government spending through the stimulus has failed to help the economy, and delayed sensible policies that would spur recovery. I am also opposed to the composition of the stimulus, which did little to invest in real jobs and infrastructure.

No c) Do you support increasing the federal minimum wage?

Yes b) Do you support federal funding for universal pre-K programs?
Yes c) Do you support federal funding for charter schools?
Yes d) Do you support federal funding for K-12 school vouchers?
Yes e) Do you support the federal government providing college students with financial aid?
I believe that we must not over-federalize education. States and local communities often know best.
No a) Do you support enacting environmental regulations aimed at reducing the effects of climate change?
No b) Do you support international emissions targets aimed at reducing the effects of climate change?
No c) Do you support allowing energy producers to trade carbon credits under a "cap and trade" system?
No d) Do you support strengthening fuel efficiency standards on all gasoline and diesel-powered engines, including cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles?
Yes e) Do you support domestic oil exploration in federally-protected areas?
Yes f) Do you support federal funding for the development of alternative energy?
Yes g) Do you support the development of nuclear reactors?
I believe that most efforts to regulate carbon dioxide emissions will prove vastly more costly than the benefit they provide. I support fuel efficiency and the development of more fuel-efficient engines, but the CAFE standards have not been helpful. I believe strongly in energy independence and innovation, and want my district to be the new national leader in alternative energy research and development.
No a) Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
Yes b) Do you believe that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of individual citizens to own guns?
Yes c) Do you support allowing individuals to carry concealed guns?
No d) Do you support a ban on assault rifles?
The term "assault rifles" is politically contested. I oppose civilians being allowed to carry military hardware, but believe handguns and rifles generally should be allowed.
No a) Do you support a publicly-administered health insurance option?
Yes b) Do you support expanding access to health care through commercial health insurance reform?
Yes c) Should the federal government expand eligibility for tax-free medical savings accounts?
Yes d) Do you support monetary limits on damages that can be collected in malpractice lawsuits?
Yes e) Do you support relaxing regulations on the importation of prescription drugs?
I believe in reforming our health insurance system--though I oppose the bill that was passed and enacted by this Congress and the Obama administration.
No a) Do you support a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants?
No b) Do you support decreasing the number of legal immigrants allowed into the country?
Yes c) Do you support establishing English as the official national language?
Yes d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
I am opposed to amnesty. I don't think that illegal immigrants should be forever precluded from becoming citizens, but they should start the process over legally, behind those who have obeyed the law, and subject to any penalties they may have incurred. I do support reforming and expanding legal immigration, once the federal government has secured our borders.
Yes a) Do you support United States military action in Afghanistan?
Yes b) Do you support increasing military assistance for Afghanistan?

No f) Should the United States support the creation of a Palestinian state?
Yes g) Do you support increasing sanctions on Iran if it continues to defy United Nations mandates?
Yes h) Do you support the withdrawal of United States troops from Iraq?
Yes i) Do you support the United States' involvement in free trade agreements?
I support the creation of a peaceful, demilitarized Palestinian state--but do not believe that the United States should be more serious about a Palestinian state than Palestinians are themselves. I support withdrawal from Iraq as and when military conditions allow.
Yes a) Should marriage only be between one man and one woman?
Yes b) Do you support allowing openly-gay men and women to serve in the United States military?
Yes c) Do you support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research?
Yes d) Should the federal government end affirmative action programs?
I support civil unions. My personal belief is that marriage is between one man and one woman, though I also believes states should be allowed to select their own policy (through legislation or referendum). I would not support changing our military's policy on openly gay soldiers before our military leaders are confident that such a change would not hurt the military's ability to pursue its core mission. I believe affirmative action has generally hurt those it is aimed at helping and should be phased out.
1 - An investment tax credit, which would give businesses 10% back for every new capital investment they make. This would help both small and large businesses get past the uncertainty of the moment and create new jobs. 2 - Cutting government spending, by freezing discretionary spending, canceling unspent bailout/stimulus funds, and making cuts to programs that no longer provide value for the taxpayer. 3 - Starting over on health care - repealing current legislation and enacting tort reform, allowing people to buy insurance across state lines, and expanding medical savings accounts, among other changes to put patients in control.
