Reason for Seeking Public Office:
I have a masters in American history, and my favorite period is the American Revolution. When the Founders developed the radical concept of a government by citizen legislators -- a house of representatives -- there were no such things as political parties and career politicians. The idea was to be more like jury duty, a short-term civic responsibility. You'd be called upon to serve and represent your community and the country. You would go, learn everything you could, make the best decision possible, and then return to your regular life.
I have no desire to spend the rest of my life in Washington D.C. However, for a period, I can be a voice in our nation's capital, the one that has been lacking for me and the thousands of other working people I've met walking the district.
My daughter is four years old. The decisions we make today will affect her for the rest of her life. Let us make decisions with her and our children and grandchildren in mind so that what we leave behind is something of real value. That is the reason I'm seeking this office.
