Study finds critical need for Civic/Voter Education

Ted McConnell, the Director for the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools and about to be one of Vote Smart's new board members sent me the following information about a critically important report issued yesterday.

 
 It firmly validates all of our staff's work and pleadings, perhaps most interestingly the need to present data in entertaining interactive formats and the impact Vote Smart has demonstrated in at risk communities and in K-12 classrooms.  I wanted to make sure that you got this.  It is not just Vote Smart that knows this problem.  "Big Data" must be humanized.

The ongoing crisis in Washington, D.C., has once again laid bare the deep polarization and partisan divisions among our elected leaders. This political climate makes civic education both more challenging and increasingly important: teaching tomorrow’s leaders to be informed, responsible citizens emerges as a vital long-term solution to political dysfunction.
 
To that end, the Commission on Youth Voting and Civic Knowledge has released its report (click this link to access the report) “All Together Now: Collaboration and Innovation for Youth Engagement.”
