Vote to pass a bill that allows certain criminal and juvenile records to be expunged.

Highlights:

-Allows an individual convicted of a summary offense to petition the court for expungement of his or her records after he or she has been free of arrest for five years following conviction (Sec. 1). -Allows an individual convicted of a third-degree misdemeanor to apply for expungement of their criminal record after he or she has been free of arrest for seven years after release from confinement or supervision (Sec. 1). -Excludes assault convictions, firearms violations, animal cruelty violations, endangering a police officer, drunk driving violations, and offenses punishable by imprisonment for one or more years (Sec. 1). -Lays out the criteria by which the court will determine whether an expungement should be granted, including the petitioner's age, employment status and criminal history, the nature of the offense and the charges, and any adverse affects that could result from the decision (Sec. 1). -Allows for the expungement of all criminal history records for violations relating to alcohol purchase, consumption, possession or transportation that were committed when the individual was under the age of 18, so long as all conditions of the sentence have been met (Sec. 2). -Allows for the expungement of criminal records in cases involving summary offenses committed when the individual was under the age of 18 (Sec. 2). -Requires a $100 expungement fee to be paid at the time the petition is filed, of which $50 is to be paid to the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts and $50 is to be paid to the Pennsylvania State Police (Sec. 3).
