Title: Health Insurance for Autism

Vote to pass a bill requiring health insurance providers to cover costs associated with autism spectrum disorders.

Highlights:

-Requires expense-incurred hospitals, medical or surgical groups and health maintenance organization groups to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders (Sec. 3406). -Prohibits the termination or refusal of coverage by an insurer or health maintenance organization solely because a patient has an autism spectrum disorder (Sec. 3406). -Specifies that coverage cannot be limited based on the number of visits made to an autism services provider (Sec. 3406). -Defines "autism spectrum disorder" as an autistic disorder, Asperger's disorder, or a pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (Sec. 3406). - Specifies that treatments for which coverage would be required include habilitative or rehabilitative care, pharmacy care, psychiatric care, psychological care and therapeutic care (Sec. 3406). -This bill is closely related to HB 4476.
