Vote to adopt a conference report that requires St. Joseph County Superior Court judges be determined through nonpartisan elections.
-Mandates that a candidate for judge of the St. Joseph superior court may not accept contributions to pay expenses connected with a candidate's candidacy from any political party, or contributions that total more than $500 from one individual, $1,000 from two or more individuals associated with one law firm, or $10,000 from all sources (Sec. 1). -Defines the court of appeals as consisting of eighteen judges who serve for the hearing and decision of causes in six geographic districts (Sec. 2). -Defines the superior court as consisting of eight judges who shall be elected in nonpartisan elections every six years in St. Joseph County (Sec. 5).
