Vote to pass a bill that requires companies to use the E-Verify database to check employee citizenship and work eligibility.
-Defines employer as a person transacting business in Rhode Island, who employs three or more people at any time (Sec. 1). -Requires employers in Rhode Island to apply to participate in the federal electronic employment authorization verification program, referred to as E-Verify, to check the work eligibility of each employee (Sec. 1) -Provides dates of compliance for employers to apply to participate in E-Verify (Sec. 1). -Mandates the department of labor training to provide a list of employers who fail to comply to the Investigations Division of the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Sec. 1). -Requires employers to terminate employment upon final notice from the department of homeland security of non-confirmation of work eligibility concerning the employee (Sec 1).
