Vote to pass a bill that appropriates funds for the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Corrections, and other criminal justice departments and agencies for fiscal years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.

Highlights:

-Repeals mandatory minimum sentencing provisions for first, second, third, fourth, and fifth degree controlled substance crimes, first degree driving while impaired (DWI) offenses, and first or subsequent offenses for failure to register properly as a predatory offender (Article 2, Secs. 1-5, 10, and 12). -Appropriates $616.81 million for fiscal year 2009-2010, to be distributed as follows (Article 1, Secs. 1-8):

    -$453.55 million for the Department of Corrections; -$155.21 million for the Department of Public Safety; -$4.03 million for the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board; -$3.33 million for Human Rights; -$575,000 for the Sentencing Guidelines Commission; and -$123,000 for the Private Detective Board.
-Appropriates $620.58 million for fiscal year 2010-2011, to be distributed as follows (Article 1, Secs. 1-8):
    -$453.56 million for the Department of Corrections; -$158.97 million for the Department of Public Safety; -$4.03 million for the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board; -$3.33 million for the Department of Human Rights; -$575,000 for the Sentencing Guidelines Commission; and -$123,000 for the Private Detective Board.
