Vote to pass a bill that authorizes counties to impose a sales tax of up to 1 percent on the retail sale of tangible personal property.
-Authorizes counties to defer to the Department of Taxation to assess and collect the tax, provided that the Department of Taxation retains 5 percent of the amount assessed and collected (Sec. 2). -Authorizes counties to establish exemptions from the tax (Sec. 2). -Specifies that if a county elects to impose a sales tax it shall take effect on January 1 of the following year, provided that it is at least 180 days following the date of adoption (Sec. 2).
