Title: Mandating Seat Belt Usage
Vote on a motion to table a bill that requires the use of seat belts for all motor vehicle operators and passengers.
-Bans persons from driving a motor vehicle unless a seat belt is being used (Sec. 1). -Bans persons from driving a motor vehicle while carrying passengers less than 18 years of age who are not wearing a seat belt or passengers less than six years of age who are not wearing a child restraint system (Secs. 2-3). -Exempts the mandatory usage of a seat belt in certain circumstances, including in motor vehicles regularly used to transport passengers for hire, in a school bus weighing more than 10,000 pounds, and for persons with a physical or mental condition which prevents appropriate restraint by a safety belt (Sec. 6).
