Title: Driver's License Suspension for Unexcused School Absences

Highlights:

-Requires individuals under 18 years of age, attending a public school, and applying for a driver's license to provide a document signed by a parent or legal guardian giving his or her principal permission to notify the juvenile and domestic relations district court if the applicant has 10 or more consecutive unexcused absences (Sec. 1). -Authorizes students to show cause for the unexcused absences to the juvenile and domestic relations district court, and specifies that failure to show cause can result in a license suspension (Sec. 1). -Exempts students under the following circumstances (Sec. 1):

    -Is employed at least 4 hours a day and at least 20 hours a week; -Has a medical condition which requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle; or -Is the only licensee in the household.
-The text of this bill was replaced by a substitute amendment sponsored by the House Committee on Transportation.
