Title: Alcohol and Soda Tax for Health Care Funding
Vote to pass a bill that raises the tax rate on alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, and soft drink syrups to fund the Dirigo Health program.
- Increases the sales tax on malt beverages sold in the state to 54 cents per gallon (Sec. E-1. 28-A MRSA §1652, sub-§1). - Increases the sales tax on wine sold in the state to 65 cents per gallon (Sec. E-2. 28-A MRSA §1652, sub-§1). - Creates a $1 per gallon tax on sparkling wine and a 25 cents per gallon tax on all hard cider manufactured or sold in the state (Sec. E-2. 28-A MRSA §1652, sub-§1). - Transfers a portion of revenues from taxes collected on malt liquor and wine from the General Fund to the Dirigo Health Enterprise Fund (Sec. E-3. 28-A MRSA §1652, sub-§5). - Creates a $4 per gallon tax on syrup that is sold and used for the making of soft drinks (Sec. F-1. 36 MRSA c.720 §4852). - Creates a 42 cents per gallon tax on bottled soft drinks (Sec.
