Vote to pass a bill that amends the state constitution to eliminate the four percent state sales tax on food and increase the personal exemptions for taxpayers beginning January 1, 2009.

Highlights:

- Specifies that federal income taxes may no longer be deducted when computing income that is subject to state income taxes [sec. 1 (b)]. - Provides for a minimum $2,200 exemption for individuals and their dependents, and a minimum $4,400 exemption for married taxpayers and their dependents [sec. 1 (d)]. - This is a substitute bill sponsored by the House Committee on Education Appropriations.

NOTE: THIS IS A SUBSTITUTE BILL, MEANING THE LANGUAGE OF THE ORIGINAL BILL HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE DEGREE TO WHICH THE SUBSTITUTE BILL TEXT DIFFERS FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE TEXT CAN VARY GREATLY.
