Vote to pass a bill that requires gun owners to report the loss or theft of their firearms more expediently and under threat of legal consequences, and creates the crime of firearm trafficking.
-Requires a gun owner to report the theft or loss of any firearm to the police within 72 hours of the time the owner discovered or should have discovered that the firearm was missing (Sec. 1). -Exempts antique firearms from this provision (Sec. 1). -Makes failure to report the theft or loss of a firearm within the prescribed time period an infraction for the first offense, punishable by a maximum fine of ninety dollars. Makes repeated violations class D felonies if accidental and class C felonies if intentional (Sec. 1). -Provides that any person who knowingly transfers five or less firearms to a person who is not legally permitted to own them is guilty of firearms trafficking as a class C felony, and that any person who knowingly transfers more than five firearms to a person who is not legally permitted to own them is guilty of firearms trafficking as a class B felony (Sec. 3).
