Title: Abortion Reporting Requirement Act

Vote to pass a bill that requires physicians to report information on all abortions they perform to the Department of Health and Safety.

Highlights:

- Requires the Department of Health and Safety to provide a list of domestic abuse shelters to “each person that performs or induces an abortion” so that they may provide this information to the patient if she reports abuse or requests this information (Sec. 2). - Requires physicians to file a report with the state including information about the facility that performed the abortion, demographic characteristics of the patient, the type of abortion, characteristics of the pregnancy, and other related medical information information except information that may be used to identify the patient (Sec. 3). - Requires that, if the patient is a minor, the report include space for reporting the age of the father, whether parental or guardian consent was given, and whether medical necessity required an immediate abortion (Sec. 3). - States that “[a] patient is not subject to any penalty for failing to fill out any part of the form or filling the form out incorrectly,” however, any one, other than the patient, who fills out the form with false information, discloses the patient’s identity, fails to file the report, or performs an abortion “without making a reasonable effort to ensure that the abortion is not the result of coercion” commits a Class C misdemeanor (Sec.3). - Requires physicians to submit reports on abortions performed beginning January 1, 2008 and beginning March 1, 2008 to submit reports on any complications due to abortion related procedures performed (Sec. 9).
