Vote to pass a bill establishing eligibility guidelines for Hathaway scholarships.

Highlights:

-Establishes a "success curriculum" for high school students, in part to help determine eligibility for scholarships under the Hathaway Scholarship Program [§1.21-16-1307(b)]. -Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, the "success curriculum" includes [§1.21-16-1307(b)]:

    -Four years of math including two years of Algebra and one year of Geometry -Four years of language arts -Three years of science in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Geology -One additional year of science -Three years of social studies
-Makes students who complete the "success curriculum" eligible for the Performance Scholarship [§1.21-16-1307(b)]. -Makes students who complete the "success curriculum" plus one year of foreign language eligible for the Honor Scholarship [§1.21-16-1307(f)]. -Makes students who complete graduation requirements plus one year of math or science eligible for the Opportunity Scholarship [§1.21-16-1307(e)]. -Makes students who complete graduation requirements plus a one year vocational course eligible for the Career Scholarship [§1.21-16-1307(e)]. -Requires high schools to provide counseling to all students, beginning in 8th grade, to explain graduation requirements, eligibility requirements for the Hathaway scholarships, and anticipated earning and career differences based on curriculum choices [§1.21-16-1307(h)(i)].
