Vote to pass a bill that authorizes teachers and staff to carry concealed firearms in public schools in the state of Tennessee.

Highlights:

• Specifies that a person employed by an LEA as a faculty or staff member is allowed to carry a concealed handgun on the grounds of the school (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that certain qualified individuals that are operating with the understanding of the chief of local law enforcement can carry a firearm on the grounds of the school (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies the qualifications needed to be able to carry a firearm on school grounds including at least 40 hours of training (Sec. 1). 

• Requires the director of schools to notify law enforcement of the qualified persons ability to carry a firearm on school grounds (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that certain information related to an individual who can carry a firearm on school grounds is confidential (Sec. 2). 

• Specifies that an individual may not carry a handgun openly or in locations where carrying a firearm is prohibited (Sec. 2).
