Vote to amend and pass a bill that defines "antisemitism" into state law and provides examples in the state of Florida.

Highlights:

  • Establishes that the legislature will adopt the working definition developed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance of the term “antisemitism” to assist in the monitoring and reporting of anti-Semitic hate crimes (Sec. 1). 

  • Specifies contemporary examples of antisemitism as the following (Sec. 1): 

    • Killing or harming of a Jewish individual; 

    • Making mendacious, decimating, demonizing, or stereotypical allegation about Jewish individuals; 

    • Accusing Jewish people as a collective of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoings committed by a single Jewish person;  

    • Denying the mechanisms of the holocaust, such as the gas chambers; 

    • Accusing Jewish people as a collective of inventing the Holocaust 

    • Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel than to the interests of their respective nations; 

    • Denying Jewish people the right to their own self-determination; 

    • Applying a double standard by requiring Jewish state of Israel a standard of behavior not expected of other democratic nations; 

    • Using the symbol and images of antisemitism; 

    • Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis; or

    • Holding Jewish individuals collectively responsible for actions of the State of Israel. 

  • Establishes that “antisemitism” does not include criticism of Israel that is similar to cristim of any other country (Sec. 1). 

  • Authorizes the act to take effect July 1, 2024 (Sec. 1).
