Vote to pass a bill that amends genetic DNA testing requirements for certain parental cases in the state of Michigan.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits the use of genetic testing if the following are true (Sec. 5): 

    • The child’s parent has previously acknowledged parentage under the Acknowledgement of Parentage Act; and

    • The child is subject to a pending adoption proceeding under the Michigan adoption code; 

  • Establishes that the child must be (Sec. 5): 

    • Conceived through the use of assisted reproduction that does not involve surrogacy if the parents of the child may be determined under the Assisted Reproduction and Surrogacy Parentage Act; and

    • A child under the surrogacy agreement must comply with the assisted reproduction and surrogacy parentage act. 

  • Authorizes this amendment to take effect 90 days after the date of its enactment (Sec. 1).
