Title: Prohibits the Possession of Detached Catalytic Converters

  • Prohibits the selling, possession, purchase, solicitation, or advertisement of a used detached catalytic converter or any nonferrous parts of a catalytic converter (Sec. 1). 

  • Authorizes the possession or sale of a used detached catalytic converter by commercial vehicle parts or repair businesses that sell or install new catalytic converters (Sec. 1). 

  • Establishes that a commercial motor vehicle parts or repair business can purchase a detached catalytic converter in compliance with the United States Environmental Protection Agency policy (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires the used detached catalytic converter to be marked with the date that it was removed from vehicle, the vehicle identification number (Sec. 1) 

  • Establishes that any person who purchases a used detached catalytic converter must electronically submit to the department of public safety a record of each transition relating to the convertor 

  • Specifies that any violation of this act is classified as a class 1 misdemeanor (Sec. 1).
