Title: Prohibits Higher Education Courses on Identity Politics
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits higher education courses on "identity politics" in the state of Florida.
Prohibits teacher preparation program courses from teaching identity politics (Sec. 1).
Establishes that theories that teach that racism, sexism, oppression, and privilege are systematic is distorting significant historical events (Sec. 1).
Establishes the following as terms of conditions for professional certification (Sec. 3):
Holds a master's degree or higher in the area of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics;
Teaches a highschool course in a subject of the advanced degree
Is highly rated as effective determined by teacher’s performance evaluations; and
Achieves a passing score on the Florida professional education competency examination.
Requires the Department of Education to establish a process for approving Level I and Level II school leader preparation programs (Sec. 4).
Establishes that school leader preparation programs must allow candidates to demonstrate their program content, including leadership strategies, coaching development, school safety and improvement efforts (Sec. 4).
Authorizes the effective date as July 1, 2024 (Sec. 5).
