Title: Establishes the Crime of Encouraging Suicide

Vote to pass a bill that establishes the crime of encouraging suicide in the state of Kansas.

Highlights:

  • Establishes the following crimes of encouraging suicide in the state of Kansas, including (Sec. 1):

    • Providing the physical means or knowledge about the physical means an individual can commit suicide, a level 9 felony; 

    • Communicating with another person with the intent to exercise substantial control over such person using such person's fears, affections or sympathies to cause such person to commit or attempt to commit suicide, a level 5 felony;

    • Knowingly exerting undue influence over another person with the intent to cause such person to commit or attempt to commit suicide, a level 4 felony; or

    • Intentionally coercing or encouraging another person to commit or attempt to commit suicide.

  • Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon its publication in the state statute book (Sec. 3).
