Title: Prohibits Unauthorized Public Camping and Public Sleeping

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits public camping and public sleeping without prior authorization in the state of Florida.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes the county, by majority vote, to designate property owned by the county to be used for the purpose of public camping or sleeping for a period of no more than 1 year (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires the county to submit a request to the Secretary of Children and Families in order to receive a certification by the department (Sec. 1). 

  • Establishes that any county that designates property to be used for public camping or sleeping must abide by the following (Sec. 1): 

    • Ensure the safety of the designated property; 

    • Maintain sanitation; 

    • Provide behavioral health services; 

    • Prohibit illegal substance use.  

  • Establishes that a fiscally constrained county is exempt from the requirements establishing a minimum standard if the county is unable to comply due to financial hardships (Sec. 2). 

  • Authorizes this act to take effect on January 1, 2025 (Sec. 3).
