Vote to pass a bill that increases teacher pay among other educational reforms in the state of Iowa.

Highlights:

• Requires the department of management to calculate for each school district a teacher salary supplement district cost per person for the year 2024, while ensuring the following (Sec. 2):

• Provides minimum teacher starting salary of  $47,500; 

• An amount necessary to allow the school district to provide an hourly wage of $15 per hour for education support personnel; and 

• The wages promote quality teaching and rewards experience. 

• Establishes the department of management to calculate for each school district a teacher salary supplement district cost per person for the year 2025, while ensuring the following (Sec. 2):

• Provides minimum teacher starting salary of $50,000; 

• An amount necessary to allow the school district to provide an hourly wage of $15 per hour for education support personnel; and 

• The wages promote quality teaching and rewards experience. 

• Establishes all funds shall be used only to increase the payment for a teacher assigned to a leadership role (Sec. 5). 

• Requires that if funds remain unexpended and unobligated at the end of the fiscal year, the school district may transfer all or a portion of funds to the school districts flexibility account (Sec. 7). 

• Authorizes any teacher who successfully completes an approved practitioner preparation program or holds an initial intern teacher license, in the fiscal year of 2024, to receive at least $47,500 (Sec. 7). 

• Requires each school district to file with the department of management a report containing all necessary information for the department to compile and calculate yearly budgets (Sec. 8).
