Title: Increases Teacher Pay Among Other Reforms
Vote to pass a bill that increases teacher pay among other educational reforms in the state of Iowa.
Requires the department of management to calculate for each school district a teacher salary supplement district cost per person for the year 2024, while ensuring the following (Sec. 2):
Provides minimum teacher starting salary of $47,500;
An amount necessary to allow the school district to provide an hourly wage of $15 per hour for education support personnel; and
The wages promote quality teaching and rewards experience.
Establishes the department of management to calculate for each school district a teacher salary supplement district cost per person for the year 2025, while ensuring the following (Sec. 2):
Provides minimum teacher starting salary of $50,000;
An amount necessary to allow the school district to provide an hourly wage of $15 per hour for education support personnel; and
The wages promote quality teaching and rewards experience.
Establishes all funds shall be used only to increase the payment for a teacher assigned to a leadership role (Sec. 5).
Requires that if funds remain unexpended and unobligated at the end of the fiscal year, the school district may transfer all or a portion of funds to the school districts flexibility account (Sec. 7).
Authorizes any teacher who successfully completes an approved practitioner preparation program or holds an initial intern teacher license, in the fiscal year of 2024, to receive at least $47,500 (Sec. 7).
Requires each school district to file with the department of management a report containing all necessary information for the department to compile and calculate yearly budgets (Sec. 8).
