Vote to pass a bill that requires all students complete a firearm safety training course in the state of Tennessee.

Highlights:

• Authorizes the department of education and the department of safety to determine the age at which students begin receiving instruction on firearm safety (Sec. 1). 

• Requires the LEA and public charter schools to annually provide students with grade-appropriate instruction on firearm safety, in 2025-2026 school year (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies what type of instruction will be taught to the students: storage safety, school safety, injury prevention, and avoidance of touching found firearms (Sec. 1). 

• Requires the instructors to be neutral on gun right political topics (Sec. 1). 

• Prohibits the departments from approving a curriculum that includes a brand or organization affiliation (Sec. 1). 

• Establishes that school safety training requirements will be enforcement by state level safety teams (Sec. 2). 

• Establishes this act to take effect upon becoming law, permitting the public require it (Sec. 3).
