Vote to pass a bill that establishes recognition of a tribal mental health and dangerous sex offender commitment orders.

Highlights:

• Requires recognition of tribal mental health and dangerous sex offender commitment orders as prescribed (Sec. 1). 

• Authorizes the mental health board to subject persons to involuntary custody and treatment in accordance with the Mental Health Commitment Act (Sec. 2). 

• Establishes that any person taken into emergency protective custody shall be admitted to a medical facility unless such person has a prior conviction of a sex offense listed (Sec. 2). 

• Requires any person taken into emergency protective custody who has a prior conviction of sex offense to be admitted to jail or Department of Correctional Services facility (Sec. 2). 

• Requires law enforcement officers under tribal law to provide documentation of their identity upon admission to a facility (Sec. 2). 

• Establishes that if the tribal court reveals that a subject within Indian country is mentally ill and dangerous pursuant to tribal law, the tribal court may order the subject committed to the treatment at a facility (Sec. 10). 

• Authorizes the sheriff or other law enforcement agencies to enter into a contract with the tribe for reimbursement for reasonable costs (Sec. 12).
